crisby: „German teams can compete very well to international teams“

escene.de: Hello Christian. Your team logiX e.V. was able to qualify for the german ESL Pro Series due to your perfomance in the second public qualifying tournament. When did you start the training with your new team and how did you meet each other?
Christian ‚crisby‘ Schmitt: We already knew before the EPS 1.6 Finals, that we will play as a team in CS:GO as well. At that time, Kirby used to be part of our team and was replaced by Andrue later. Kirby took his chance and went to n!faculty because he was unsure about his future position in our team and so we replaced him by Andrue. Basically we practice in this formation since the end of August.
What does your training look like? Is the focus on finding new positions, flashes and timings?
Of course. It is a complete new game and you have to test all possibilities and check if old grenades, tactics etc. from CSS and CS still work. Together as a team we worked out the basics after a long time of preparation. We try to play as much as we can as a team and see what we might need in the future and what we need to improve.
Did you have the chance to practice against international teams already? If so, what is your oppinion about the performance of german CS:GO teams compared to the performance of the international level?
Yes we did. International teams usually play totally different than german teams. However german teams can compete very well to international teams in my oppinion. Actually everyone can compete, as long as they invest enough time and don’t lose the motivation to explore a new game to its very limits.
Which teams and players of the EPS Qualifying Cups surprised you the most and who didn’t fulfill your expectations?
It’s hard to say because we could not play against all teams that are qualified now. In theory any of these teams are able to play on the top level but it is hard to make a guess who will make it to the finals in the end. Usually you would end up listing all those big clan names but it is a new game and there is everything possible.
What is the current performance level of the CS:GO teams in your oppinion?
Not everything has been figured out yet in CS:GO, though all teams spend a lot of time playing and improving their gameplay which will result in a constant improvement of the performance in general.
What will be the favourite team in the upcoming EPS season?
I think that mTw and ALTERNATE are the top favourites. GAMED, SFTO, n!faculty and us will also be on the leading edge.
You are one of those hardly seeded teams that come up with a lineup formed of CS 1.6 players. Do you notice a general difference in gameplay between former CS 1.6, CS:S and mixed teams?
There is a huge difference. A mixed team would be the best solution, but only for the beginning, i think. In time all CS 1.6 players will get used to the game mechanics etc. and they will profit from their experience in understanding the game and the way they communicate, what CS:S players simply lack.
CS:GO is a currently hot discussed topic in the community. What is your oppinion about it? Are you missing CS 1.6?
Of course i still would like to play CS 1.6 because that would’ve saved me a lot of time in learning new grenades and such things. Leaving those games behind was a good thing because it brought the community back together. However, it’s a lot of fun to me competing with other teams in CS:GO.
What changes would be made in the next patch, if you were to decide?
The money system gives you some advantages on one side but on the other hand you have a hard time in reading whether your opponent uses ECO or EQUIP. The biggest issue though, are the sound problems and the ongoing changes of the grenades that came along with the last patches.
Let’s take a look into the future: What will CS:GO be like one year ahead from today and what will be the role of you, Christian „crisby“ Schmitt in it?
Puhh. That’s a hard question but we have high expectations in our team and we want to play on a high level on a national and international basis as well. We’ll see if that will be the case then. 😉
Thank you for this interview, Christian. Of course now it’s your turn to end it with your last words!
I want to thank logiX e.V. for all the trust in us and also the sponsors who support us. I’m looking forward to playing as many tournaments / events with my team as possible. I’d like to greet all those who know me. 😉
